Back to School Information 2019-20
The 2019-20 school year will start for students on Thursday, Aug. 8 at all schools in the Glynn County School System. Parents should be aware of important events leading up to the start of school and information that they will receive at the start of the school year.
Open House will be held at all elementary schools, the FACES prekindergarten center and Leaps and Bounds on Monday, Aug. 5; at all middle schools and the Golden Isles Career Academy on Tuesday, Aug. 6; and at the two high schools on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Open House hours on all three dates will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Per Georgia law, all students entering or transferring into the 7th grade will need proof of receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine and a meningococcal booster shot (MCV4), unless the child(ren) has an exemption. Please contact your child’s pediatrician or our local Health Department in order to verify your child’s immunization status. Students must have their immunizations current by the first day of school, Aug. 8, 2019.
Parents/guardians of a child who did not attend public school in Glynn County last school year are encouraged to register their child as soon as possible at the district’s Central Registration Office in the Risley Annex at 2900 Albany Street in Brunswick. Parents will not be able to register students who are new to the Glynn County School System at Open House events.
Documents that will be requested when enrolling new students include the child’s certified birth certificate and Social Security card (disclosure of the child’s Social Security Number is voluntary), current proof of immunization (GA Form 3231), a certificate of vision/hearing/dental/nutrition screening (DHR Form 3300 current within the year that the child enters school), custody documentation (if necessary), current proof of residency and parent/guardian identification (any photo identification presented as documentation does not have to be government issued). Following registration, parents/guardians will receive documents that they must take to the school for which their home address is zoned to complete the enrollment process.
For more information about the registration process, call the Central Registration Office at 912-280-4010.
At the start of the school year, students and parents will receive important information that they should review carefully. In an effort to conserve resources and reduce waste, the district will again limit the number of documents that are sent home with students at the beginning of the school year.
Included in the information packet that will be sent home to students will be a check sheet that parents are asked to review, sign and return to school. The check sheet confirms that parents are aware of and understand important policies such as the student behavior and dress codes, their parental rights under federal law, procedures for managing student lunch accounts online and ‘opting out’ of publicity that may include their child’s name or likeness. The packet will also contain an attendance agreement that parents must sign and return to school.
For more information, call your child’s school or the district Administrative Office at 912-267-4100.
